Crude palm oil futures on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives are expected to trade sideways next week, with the market remaining cautious as it awaits catalysts from the outcomes of the 37th Palm and Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference and Exhibition (POC2026), scheduled to be held next week.

David Ng, a proprietary trader at Iceberg X Sdn Bhd, said the conference is likely to focus on palm oil fundamentals and price outlooks. He told Bernama: "We expect crude palm oil prices to move between 4,080 and 4,200 ringgit per tonne next week."

Jim Teh, chief palm oil trader at Interband Group of Companies, expects genuine demand for crude palm oil to emerge from China ahead of the Chinese New Year, alongside demand from India, Pakistan, the Middle East, the European Union and the United States. He added: "As such, crude palm oil prices should trade between 3,800 and 3,950 ringgit per tonne."

On a week-on-week basis, Friday to Friday, the February 2026 contract fell by 78 ringgit to 4,082 ringgit per tonne, the March 2026 contract dropped 88 ringgit to 4,121 ringgit per tonne, and the April 2026 contract declined 75 ringgit to 4,154 ringgit per tonne.

The May 2026 contract fell by 65 ringgit to 4,163 ringgit per tonne, while the June 2026 contract dropped 55 ringgit to 4,158 ringgit per tonne, and the July 2026 contract declined 44 ringgit to 4,150 ringgit per tonne.

Weekly trading volume fell to 274,729 lots, compared with 455,274 lots the previous week, while open interest declined to 219,059 contracts from 220,712 previously.

The new physical price for January-delivery crude palm oil in the southern region fell by 70 ringgit to 4,130 ringgit per tonne.
