The Tunisian Council for Packaged Olive Oil held its thirty-sixth meeting on Monday, July 20, chaired by Salah Zouari, Minister of Equipment and Housing, assigned to manage the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy. The meeting, held at the Ministry's headquarters, included members from both public and private sectors, as well as representatives from the Technical Center for Packaging and Packing (CETI) and the Technical Center for Food Industries (CTAA).
During its deliberations, the Council reviewed the performance of the packaged olive oil export season for the first half of 2026, compared to the same period in 2025. According to the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, exported quantities witnessed a significant increase of 57%, reaching approximately 41,000 tons.
Export revenues also grew by 42%, totaling around 666 million Tunisian Dinars, reflecting the growing momentum of the sector. Export destinations expanded during the first half of the current year (2026), now encompassing 62 global markets. This expansion included opening promising new markets such as Jordan, Brazil, China, and Russia, in addition to strengthening presence in important traditional markets like Canada, the United States, the Arab Gulf states, France, and Belgium. An increase in the number of Tunisian exporting companies was also recorded, indicating the sector's vitality and its global competitiveness.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the paramount importance of cooperation and partnership between the public and private sectors to further enhance the value of Tunisian packaged olive oil. Attendees called for setting clear qualitative and quantitative objectives for upcoming seasons, with the aim of solidifying Tunisia's position as a major and influential player in the global packaged olive oil market.
Council members also approved the advertising and promotional programs designated for companies for 2026, as well as the public interest advertising and promotional program for 2027. The latter aims to elevate the image of Tunisian olive oil as a high-quality product, enhance its international outreach, diversify foreign markets, expand the consumer base, and keep pace with the evolving demands of target markets.
It is noteworthy that these promotional efforts will include direct business-to-consumer (B2C) initiatives through advertising campaigns and digital marketing, with the goal of reaching the end consumer directly. These public interest promotional operations are considered a strategic tool for establishing Tunisian olive oil's standing in global markets and ensuring sustainable growth for its packaged exports.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the results of the National Competition for the Best Packaged Olive Oil for the 2025/2026 season, organized by the Technical Center for Food Industries, were approved. Source: Assabah news
