Russia's quality control body Roskachestvo announced in a statement on Wednesday that Tunisia has moved to the forefront of olive oil-producing countries holding certification of conformity to Russian standards, after new companies joined the list, bringing the total number of certified Tunisian firms to four.
The body granted organic quality certification to two new producers from the city of Sfax: Tirouleva Company (owner of the "Baraka Oliva" brand) and Agro Leva Company (owner of the "Baya" brand), after both companies met all the organic production criteria required by the certification body.
With this achievement, Tunisia now has the largest number of foreign companies holding Russian organic certification, putting it ahead of competing countries such as Italy and Spain, whose companies also feature on the list of suppliers to Russia.
Facts about Tunisia's olive sector:
Companies that receive this certification are listed in the register maintained by Russia's Ministry of Agriculture, which grants them the legal right to place the official "organic" label on their products.
