Thor Explorations Limited, operating through its Nigerian subsidiary Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), has delivered 10 specialized processing plants for cassava and oil palm to host communities in Osun State. The initiative is designed to modernize agricultural operations, enhance local livelihoods, and catalyze economic growth across the Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha, and Iperindo regions. By integrating a 50 per cent equipment subsidy with a hire-purchase model, the project empowers local processors to transition from traditional methods to industrial-grade machinery.

The distribution of the infrastructure includes six dedicated oil palm processing units and four cassava processing plants. Specifically, the Iperindo community received two units for each commodity, while Imogbara and Odo-Ijesha were each allocated two oil palm plants and one cassava plant. Thor Explorations stated that the strategic intervention aims to mitigate the inefficiencies of labor-intensive processing, which currently constrains output and diminishes the earning potential of local entrepreneurs.

Technical specifications for the oil palm plants include vertical palm fruit debunchers and diesel-powered automatic pressers. The debunching units are capable of processing between 800 and 1,000 kilogrammes of palm fruit per hour, significantly reducing the manual labor required to strip fruits from their bunches. Meanwhile, the cassava facilities are equipped with high-capacity graters processing up to 500 kilogrammes per hour, alongside 32-tonne jack-fitted manual pressers and specialized fryers for garri production.

According to the company, the introduction of this equipment will enhance processing consistency and allow beneficiaries to manage substantially larger volumes of agricultural raw materials. The financial structure of the deal—combining subsidies with hire-purchase—is intended to foster business accountability and ensure the long-term maintenance of the assets. Thor Explorations emphasized that as agriculture remains a cornerstone of the local economy, increasing processing capacity is vital for entrepreneurs to integrate more effectively into broader agricultural value chains.

Beyond the immediate impact on processors, the project is expected to stimulate secondary economic sectors, including logistics, trading, and distribution. Improved product quality is also anticipated to open new market opportunities. This initiative is a component of Thor’s extensive community investment strategy managed by SROL, which spans education, women’s enterprise, and livelihood restoration. The company reiterated that these efforts underscore its commitment to building sustainable economic resilience in the vicinity of its Segilola Gold Mine.
