Netherlands-based biofuel producer Sunoil Biodiesel has received regulatory authorisation to distribute its sustainable fuels in Belgium, marking a significant step in the company's expanding European footprint.
The approval adds Belgium to a growing roster of markets where Sunoil is licensed to supply its waste-based biodiesel products. According to the company, entering any new market requires more than commercial opportunity alone, stressing the need for robust traceability, strong sustainability systems, and full compliance with local regulatory requirements across the entire supply chain. Sunoil noted that these integrated systems provide a solid foundation for further expansion across Europe.
The Belgian authorisation comes as Sunoil scales up its operations and demonstrates practical applications of high-grade biodiesel. Its inland barge Birjo II has recently been converted to run entirely on B100 biodiesel, produced in the Netherlands and delivered in partnership with BFT Tanker Logistics. The vessel now transports biofuel using 100% renewable bunkers, underscoring the company's capability to support low-emission transport solutions.
Sunoil converts certified waste oils and fats into biodiesel at its production facilities in Emmen and Kampen, supported by trading operations in Amsterdam. The company positions its products as lower-emission alternatives or blend components for fossil diesel across the road, marine, and energy sectors.
