
Since the beginning of the current season on July 1, 2024, and through October 14, European Union countries continued to reduce their vegetable oil imports, according to Zerno On-Line, citing the European Commission.
Total imports reached around 1.236 million tonnes, down 26% compared with the same period of the previous season.
Sunflower oil imports during the first 15 weeks of the season fell to 426,200 tonnes, down 25% from the previous season. Palm oil imports also declined by 25% to 725,500 tonnes.
At the same time, soybean oil imports rose to 200,200 tonnes, an increase of 160%, while rapeseed oil imports edged up by 1% to 84,400 tonnes.
This season, sunflower oil and soybean oil are being imported mainly from Ukraine, at 396,400 tonnes and 106,400 tonnes respectively. Palm oil is being sourced mainly from Malaysia, at 211,500 tonnes, and Indonesia, at 202,700 tonnes.
