Pakistan is bracing for a potential food crisis as concerns mount over an impending shortage of ghee and cooking oil, both essential staples for food preparation across the nation. This warning comes as edible oil tankers have been on strike for over ten days.
Bakhtawar Khan, Chairman of the Edible Oil Tankers Association, stated that if the strike persists, the disruption in edible oil supply could escalate into a widespread ghee and cooking oil crisis throughout the country.
Khan has called for 10-wheeler tankers to be permitted to carry an appropriate load weight. He emphasized that these tankers are built to transport up to 60 tonnes of edible oil without causing any damage to the vehicles, asserting that current load restrictions are impractical.
The Chairman of the Edible Oil Tankers Association urged authorities to lift the existing restrictions and resolve their issues at a meeting scheduled to take place today at the Governor House. He cautioned that the strike would continue indefinitely if their concerns are not adequately addressed.
