Oleon, a global frontrunner in oleochemical innovation and a key subsidiary of the Avril Group, has officially commissioned its latest esterification plant in Conroe, Texas. This expansion marks a pivotal step in the company's strategy to bolster its presence in the North American market, focusing on delivering high-performance, bio-based solutions through localized manufacturing.

The new facility, which reached full operational status in September 2026, integrates advanced esterification technology with the site's existing suite of services, including blending, packaging, and logistics. This synergy positions the Conroe site as a comprehensive manufacturing hub tailored for the lubricants, industrial, and energy sectors.

Strategically located within the primary chemical and energy corridor of the United States, the Conroe site was chosen for its logistical advantages, access to raw material streams, and a robust pool of technical talent. By producing locally, Oleon aims to enhance supply chain stability and significantly reduce lead times for its North American clientele.

Oleon CEO Antoine Prevost emphasized the importance of the region, noting that local production facilitates faster response times and collaborative development of specialized solutions. He highlighted that the facility leverages Oleon's deep-rooted expertise in oleochemistry while aligning with the company's commitment to renewable feedstocks.

The demand for specialty esters is particularly strong in the lubricant and oil and gas industries. David Van De Gejuchte, the Plant Manager at Conroe, explained that the new unit provides the flexibility needed to produce a diverse portfolio of tailor-made formulations. These include everything from drilling and hydraulic fluids to modifiers for electric vehicle cooling systems and rheology additives.

Oleochemistry offers a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil-based petrochemicals by transforming vegetable oils and animal fats into biodegradable industrial components. By localizing production in Texas, Oleon not only supports environmental goals but also minimizes transportation-related carbon emissions.

The inauguration was attended by local dignitaries, including Conroe Mayor Pro Tem John T. Sellars, who lauded the partnership between the global firm and the Texas community. With over $50 million invested in the site, the facility has become a vital component of Oleon's global operations, creating skilled jobs and supporting local suppliers.

Headquartered in Belgium, Oleon operates eight production sites globally and employs approximately 1,500 people. The company remains dedicated to its core purpose of 'Serving the Earth' through both sustainable industrial practices and community engagement initiatives, such as its partnership with the Montgomery County Food Bank.
