The Moura and Barrancos Agricultural Cooperative (CAMB) has officially commenced the 2026/2027 olive harvest with projections suggesting a total yield of approximately 70 million kilograms. This volume would mark one of the most substantial harvests in the organization's history, surpassing the 62 million kilograms collected during the previous season.

Initial quality assessments are highly encouraging, with early ripening tests indicating low acidity levels. However, the final output remains contingent on climatic factors, particularly for traditional rainfed olive groves, which constitute roughly 65% of the cooperative members' total cultivated area. Helder Transmontano, the General Director of CAMB, noted that if these forecasts hold, the cooperative will experience a historic campaign with growth between 10% and 15%.

The harvesting and processing operations are slated to continue through February 2027, requiring a workforce of thousands. At the processing facility, operations are running 24 hours a day to manage the influx. CAMB currently supports 1,300 olive-growing members and maintains a permanent staff of 50. Its flagship product, Moura Olive Oil, holds a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status and is crafted from traditional Alentejo varieties including Cordovil de Serpa, Galega, and Verdeal Alentejana.

In broader industry news, several significant corporate shifts were reported. Nestlé is set to shutter its Solon, Ohio facility, which specializes in pouch-packaged products for foodservice. Meanwhile, Lindt & Sprüngli confirmed the departure of CEO Adalbert Lechner following lackluster performance in European markets. In the maritime sector, EU fish catches are projected to hit 3.3 million tons in 2025, valued at 5.5 billion euros. Additionally, Portuguese SMEs utilizing Amazon for exports are expected to exceed €170 million in sales for the first time in 2025.

Technology is also reshaping retail, with 65% of consumers expected to integrate AI into their 2026 holiday shopping routines according to Shopify. In logistics, Shein has introduced a European service involving CTT to streamline international shipping. Furthermore, the European Commission has cleared the acquisition of Fnac Darty by Daniel Křetínský's EP Group. Finally, Vigor has expanded its retail footprint by opening its first 'Latteria' in Porto in partnership with Funky Chunky.
