As part of Egypt’s efforts to combat commercial fraud and protect public health, the General Administration of Supply and Internal Trade Police carried out a successful operation targeting an unlicensed cooking oil packaging facility.

The facility was operating in Deirb Negm, Sharqia Governorate, and its responsible manager was arrested.

Tonnes of counterfeit oils seized in Deirb Negm

The operation followed investigations and information that led security authorities to the violating facility.

The raid resulted in the following seizures:

  • 11 tonnes of cooking oil of unknown origin, stored in tanks that lacked basic health requirements and had no production or expiry dates.
  • 2,628 filled oil packages ready for distribution in Egyptian markets, carrying counterfeit trademarks of major companies.
  • 15,000 empty packages carrying false data, prepared for use in selling low-quality products to consumers for illegal profit.

Regulatory campaigns continue in Egyptian markets

The case comes as part of ongoing efforts by Egypt’s Ministry of Interior to confront food manipulation and commodity fraud.

Economic security authorities stressed that no leniency will be shown toward food facilities operating outside the law or violating standards.

Legal procedures were taken, the seized materials were placed under custody, and the suspect was referred to the Public Prosecution for investigation.
