Malaysia is relying on higher productivity, accelerated replanting and tighter sustainability standards to steer the next stage of its palm oil industry, according to Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad.

Speaking at the Globoil India 2026 conference in Mumbai on 30 September, the minister said Malaysia would keep raising industry standards and strengthening its standing as a reliable long-term supplier, building on record crude palm oil output of 20.28 million tonnes in 2025.

'The future of Malaysian palm oil will be built on higher productivity, faster replanting and better management of the land already under cultivation,' she said.

Noraini underlined palm oil's contribution to global food security, notably in India, the world's largest importer of edible oils and Malaysia's top palm oil buyer for 13 consecutive years.

'More than 80 per cent of what we produce is exported. This reflects how seriously Malaysia takes its responsibility as a dependable long-term supplier to key markets such as India,' she said.

Malaysia aims to broaden its palm oil relationship with India through closer collaboration in manufacturing, technology and higher-value products.

Ahead of the Mumbai conference, Noraini met senior executives from several leading Indian companies in Bengaluru on 28 September to explore potential areas of cooperation.

Her meetings with Godrej Industries Group and Godrej Agrovet Ltd covered palm oil trade, planting material development, the exchange of expertise, as well as oleochemicals, surfactants and specialty chemicals.

Talks with Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting centred on expanding the use of oleochemicals, specialised formulations and higher-value palm oil products, while discussions with ITC Limited examined opportunities for more Malaysian companies to join the procurement chain of its food business.

The minister also met analytics firm SatSure to discuss possible pilot projects in Malaysia using satellite monitoring, remote sensing and artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the palm oil industry.
