Following the directives of Luxor Governor Abdel Mottaleb Amara to tighten monitoring of markets and bakeries, the Directorate of Supply and Internal Trade carried out an expanded inspection campaign in cooperation with the National Food Safety Authority.
Expired Cooking Oils Found
Abdel Razek Mohamed El-Safy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply in Luxor, said the campaign was led by Gibril Bakry, Director General of Internal Trade, together with inspector Sherif Ahmed.
The campaign resulted in finding 22 containers of expired cooking oil, with a total weight of around half a tonne. The quantities were considered a direct risk to public health if they reached the market.
The products were immediately held and placed in the directorate’s warehouses pending a decision by the Public Prosecution. Legal procedures were also taken and a report was filed against the violators.
