In a move aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring their safety, informed sources have said that Kuwait's Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has decided to require all food establishments and factories, as well as food product suppliers, to comply with a hydrogenated fats regulation aimed at eliminating industrial trans fatty acids, effective from next May. The authority is scheduled to hold a press conference next Sunday to reveal the mechanism for implementing this regulation.

Commenting on the decision, Fahad Al-Arbash, head of the Restaurants Union, explained that the decision would not significantly affect restaurants, given that many of them rely on vegetable oils. He noted that "factories relying on trans fats, such as potato chip and various types of bakery factories, will be the most affected by this decision."

It is worth noting that this step comes as part of the ongoing efforts made by the Food Authority to enhance consumer safety and strengthen cooperation between government bodies and the private sector to achieve the public interest. The initiative is also based on GCC Technical Regulation No. 2483 concerning trans fats and food product contents, which underscores the potential health risks to society from consuming industrial trans fats.
