Iraq's Ministry of Agriculture announced on Sunday that olive oil production rates had increased significantly during 2025.
In a statement, the ministry said it had "managed to achieve high oil extraction rates of 18% from multiple olive varieties, including 'Picual', 'Gerava' and 'St Catherine', marking a historic achievement for Iraq's olive-growing sector".
The statement noted that "this progress is the result of three years of continuous work, which included collecting fruit from various regions and using a range of presses in order to achieve the best possible quality".
The ministry added that "despite the challenges faced by farmers in previous years, when oil extraction rates did not exceed 10%, production rates have now shown a marked improvement".
