Jakarta – Indonesia's palm oil sector posted broad-based gains in June 2026, with exports soaring 64% month-on-month while both production and domestic consumption also advanced, according to fresh data released by the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI).

Crude palm oil (CPO) output in June 2026 reached 4,823 thousand tons, marking an 8.59% increase from the 4,165 thousand tons recorded in May. Palm kernel oil (PKO) production climbed to 449 thousand tons, up from 387 thousand tons. Combined CPO and PKO output for the month totaled 5,277 thousand tons, up 8.59% from 4,552 thousand tons in May. On a year-to-date basis, total production from January to June 2026 reached 30,284 thousand tons, 15.82% higher than the 27,889 thousand tons recorded during the same period of 2025.

Domestic consumption continued its upward trajectory, reaching 2,201 thousand tons in June, a 5.92% increase from 2,078 thousand tons in May. The biodiesel segment remained the principal growth driver, with consumption rising to 1,131 thousand tons from 1,035 thousand tons. Food consumption increased to 878,000 tons from 856,000 tons, while oleochemical consumption edged up to 192,000 tons from 187,000 tons. For the first half of 2026, cumulative domestic consumption stood at 12,994,000 tons, up 5.48% from 12,272,000 tons a year earlier.

The standout performance, however, came on the export side. Total palm product exports in June 2026 reached 3,275,000 tons, surging 64.08% from 1,996,000 tons in May. Processed palm oil exports rose to 2,357,000 tons from 1,423,000 tons (+66%), CPO exports jumped to 335,000 tons from 31,000 tons (+980%), and processed palm kernel oil exports climbed to 116,000 tons from 55,000 tons (+110%). Cumulatively, exports from January to June 2026 totaled 16,595,000 tons, up 5.79% from 15,686,000 tons in the corresponding period of 2025.

The export value of palm products in June 2026 reached US$3.92 billion, a 57.45% jump from US$2.49 billion in May. The sharp rise in value was driven primarily by volume growth, even as the average CPO export price softened to US$1,174 per ton in June, down 4.32% from US$1,227 in May. The price move mirrored the decline on the Malaysian Derivatives Exchange (MDEX), where prices slipped from US$1,134/ton in May to US$1,107/ton in June. Cumulatively, the export value for January–June 2026 reached US$19.45 billion, 12.57% higher than the US$17.277 billion recorded in the first half of 2025.

The average CPO export price for the January–June 2026 period stood at US$1,132 per ton, compared with US$1,088 per ton in the same period of 2025. By destination, the surge in June exports versus May covered India (328 thousand tons, +396%), China (256 thousand tons, +67%), Pakistan (132 thousand tons, +88%), Malaysia (129 thousand tons, +149%), Africa (114 thousand tons, +45%), Bangladesh (98 thousand tons, +133%), and the United States (85 thousand tons, +64%). Declines were recorded for Russia (25 thousand tons, -20%) and the EU-27 (4.0 thousand tons, -2%).

On a half-year cumulative basis, exports to China were 31% higher than in 2025, followed by Malaysia (+13%), Russia (+7%), Africa (+4%), and Bangladesh (+4%). Conversely, shipments to the United States fell 8%, India 7%, Pakistan 7%, and the EU-27 1%.

Stock dynamics reflected the strong demand: with an opening inventory of 2,068 thousand tons, total production of 30,284 thousand tons, domestic consumption of 12,994 thousand tons, total exports of 16,595 thousand tons, and imports of 32 thousand tons during January–June 2026, the closing stock at the end of June stood at 2,844 thousand tons.

The figures were released by GAPKI in Jakarta on 14 July 2026, with Executive Director Mukti Sardjono available for further details (Ph. 021-57943871, Fax. 021-57943872).
