Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, said the country plans to stop importing diesel by the second half of 2026 by implementing its B50 biofuel programme, a blend of 50 percent palm oil and 50 percent fossil diesel, according to the Antara news agency.

The country is currently in the final stage of testing B50 biodiesel fuel across various types of vehicles, including ship engines, trains and heavy equipment. The trials are expected to continue for six to eight months, after which a final decision will be made on the programme's rollout.

According to the Energy Ministry, ensuring sufficient palm oil production will require measures such as expanding cultivated areas and reducing exports.

The previous biofuel programme, B40, which consists of 40 percent renewable biological components derived mainly from palm oil and 60 percent fossil diesel, has already shown positive results.
