H.E. Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and H.E. Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO of ENOC Group, witnessed the signing of a strategic agreement aimed at advancing used cooking oil (UCO) recovery and bolstering Dubai's circular economy. The partnership focuses on exploring collaboration in alternative and cleaner fuels, specifically the collection of UCO for conversion into high-quality biodiesel.
The initiative seeks to create a seamless link between the responsible collection of waste oils from restaurants, commercial businesses, and households across Dubai and local biofuel production. Under the agreement, ENOC will process the collected feedstock at its dedicated plant in Jebel Ali. Dubai Municipality will provide the necessary oversight and coordination to streamline recovery efforts and mitigate the environmental risks of improper oil disposal, while ENOC contributes its technical expertise in fuel manufacturing and distribution.
The formal agreement was signed by Ali Khalid bin Zayed Al Falasi, Deputy Managing Director of Commercial and Retail at ENOC Group, and Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, during the WETEX 2026 exhibition. This collaboration aligns with the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031, aiming to retain resource value within the local economy while fostering sustainable consumption habits.
Ali Khalid bin Zayed Al Falasi commented on the partnership, stating: 'Meeting the UAE's future energy demands necessitates expanding access to cleaner fuels and optimizing our existing resources. Converting waste into fuel addresses both priorities by strengthening domestic production and supporting the transition to a lower-carbon economy. This partnership reflects our dedication to energy solutions that align with Dubai's sustainability goals.'
Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi highlighted that the collaboration is a vital step toward integrated waste management. He noted that transforming waste into valuable resources like lower-carbon biofuels demonstrates how innovation can provide sustainable energy alternatives while reducing environmental impact, ultimately enhancing the quality of life and supporting Dubai’s clean energy transition.
ENOC Group has a proven track record in the renewable sector, having introduced Biodiesel5 to the UAE market in 2017. Since then, it has expanded its reach across the transport, logistics, and construction industries. At WETEX 2026, the Group is showcasing its latest green technologies, including a biodiesel delivery truck and a hydrogen-powered COBUS bus, reinforcing its commitment to the UAE's long-term environmental ambitions.
