SOMERSET, Ky. — Continental Refining Company (CRC) has confirmed that its soybean processing facility will remain idled for the current season as the firm weighs repair and restart strategies following a significant fire in July. Despite the setback in soybean crushing, CRC reported that its biodiesel production and fuel terminal operations are functioning at full capacity, with a major expansion project currently underway to double its renewable fuel output.

The fire, which occurred on July 5 during a period when the soybean unit was already inactive, caused substantial structural damage to the processing area of the company's 77-acre industrial complex. While the soybean plant remains offline, CRC is actively evaluating the economic feasibility of a restart and exploring alternative future uses for the facility. In the interim, the company is looking for a regional partner to manage and operate its grain elevator infrastructure.

In contrast to the idled soybean plant, CRC's biodiesel segment is experiencing robust growth. A capital expansion project launched in August is slated for completion by November 15, which will effectively double the facility's production capacity. Furthermore, the company is installing a new rail spur to link the site with the Norfolk Southern main line, a move that will facilitate the nationwide distribution of its biofuel products.

This strategic investment follows a period of double-digit growth for CRC's biodiesel business. In September, the company introduced 'P51', a higher-blend biodiesel product that has already seen strong regional demand. The product was rigorously tested for several years within the fleet of CRC affiliate White Oil Company, ensuring proven performance metrics before its broader commercial release.

CRC remains committed to producing premium biodiesel derived from soybean oil and other vegetable oils, focusing on domestic energy security and supporting American agriculture amid global geopolitical instability. The Somerset site serves as an integrated hub featuring soybean crushing, biodiesel manufacturing, fuel blending, and grain handling services.
