Organisers of the 2024 Carthage International Olive Oil Contest (CARTHAGE IOOC), held alongside the International Food Industries Exhibition for Africa 2024, announced that the competition has been included in the global EVOO World Ranking.
According to a press statement received by TAP (Tunis Afrique Presse), the Carthage International Olive Oil Contest is the first competition in Africa to be included in this global ranking, reflecting the quality of its organisation and level of participation, and highlighting Tunisia's strategic role in promoting olive oil on the international stage.
The statement noted that 193 samples from 17 countries were registered in this first edition of the contest, which awarded 159 medals — 35 double gold medals, 75 gold medals and 49 silver medals.
The same source said the success and credibility of the contest rests on a jury of 12 international experts from Algeria, Brazil, Greece, the United Kingdom, the United States, Tunisia, Turkey, Italy, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Spain and South Africa.
Alongside celebrating the excellence of Tunisian and international olive oil producers, the contest helped strengthen Tunisia's standing as a leading destination for specialised food industry competitions.
The contest brings together leading producers and global experts in the field with international judges, and aims, according to the statement, to showcase innovation, quality and heritage in the olive oil sector.
