A new sunflower processing facility has been inaugurated in the northeastern Bulgarian city of Dobrich, representing an investment of more than €20 million and expected to create 60 new jobs, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced at the opening ceremony.
The plant will manufacture sunflower oil and meal, with production set to generate 60 new positions once fully operational. Speaking at the inauguration, Radev stressed that expanding Bulgaria's processing industry would allow a larger share of the value created by the country's agricultural sector to remain within national borders.
'I want to see more processing plants, so that we export not just grain and sunflower seeds, but also finished, value-added products, and for that value to remain here in Bulgaria,' the prime minister stated.
Radev also confirmed that the government would back efforts to increase production and processing capacity across the country. According to the prime minister, Bulgarian agriculture has the potential to evolve into a modern and innovative sector, while companies that process locally produced raw materials can compete successfully on international markets.
The prime minister also pointed to new production facilities in Shumen as an example of continuity between successive Bulgarian governments in supporting industrial investment.
Agriculture and Food Minister Plamen Abrovski also attended the inauguration ceremony of the new plant in Dobrich.
