Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has announced an exceptional agricultural season ahead, saying abundant olive production will bring down olive oil prices for Moroccan consumers. He added that the promising season will also see date production rise by 50% and citrus output by 25%, creating more than 200,000 new jobs.
The remarks came as he reviewed employment figures, noting that the government had succeeded in creating around 600,000 jobs despite challenges including waves of drought and the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic, which were addressed through programmes such as "Forsa" and "Intilaka".
Akhannouch said these positive factors would support the national economy, which recorded growth of 4.8% in the first quarter and is expected to maintain growth of around 4.6% by year-end, helping to reduce the current unemployment rate of 12.8%.
