State Minister for Public Administration and Food, Abdul Bari, emphasized the critical importance of ensuring healthy and safe food in markets to safeguard public health. He highlighted that the sale of unpackaged, or 'open', edible oil poses significant health risks. Consequently, he called upon all relevant stakeholders to take a responsible and proactive role in guaranteeing the availability of quality, adulteration-free packaged edible oil in markets.
These remarks were made during a district advocacy meeting held on Friday morning at the Joypurhat district administration conference room. The meeting focused on the crucial role local stakeholders play in eliminating the sale of loose edible oil.
The event was organized by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) and sponsored by the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh. The Joypurhat District Administration provided comprehensive support for the meeting.
Key figures addressing the gathering included Deputy Commissioner Al Mamun Mia, District Council Administrator and District BNP Senior Joint Convener Masud Rana Pradhan, and Police Superintendent Shahnaz Begum. Also speaking were Mushtaq Hasan Muh. Iftikhar, a Consultant for the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and Founder Chairman of the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute; Professor Dr. Sohel Reza Chowdhury, Director of the Pathology and Research Department at the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute; District Food Safety Officer Sumaiya Afrin Jinia; District BNP Convener Golzar Hossain; Joint Convener Abdul Wahab; and Joypurhat Press Club President Abu Bakkar Siddique, among others. Speakers collectively detailed the various drawbacks and health hazards associated with the sale of loose edible oil, strongly urging collaborative efforts to ensure 100% packaged edible oil in the market for the protection of public health.
The advocacy meeting saw the participation of senior officials from the district and police administrations, representatives from the Safe Food Authority, and various local business organizations.
