Major General Emad Kedwany, Governor of Minya, stressed the continuation of intensive inspection and monitoring campaigns targeting markets, municipal bakeries, and shops across all centers of the governorate.
The governor said the state will firmly confront any attempts at commercial fraud or manipulation of citizens’ food supplies, while taking all deterrent legal measures against violators to protect public health and ensure market discipline.
In this context, Engineer Helmy El-Zahry, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply in Minya, said the directorate launched a broad inspection campaign in Deir Mawas in coordination with the supply investigations unit in Mallawi and the local authority.
The campaign succeeded in seizing and confiscating 15,000 liters of used cooking oil before recycling procedures began and before the oil could be offered for sale.
El-Zahry explained that the campaign raided an unlicensed warehouse used to collect these oils and repackage them in ways that mislead consumers. Inspectors found 67 barrels of used oil, with a total capacity of 13,400 liters, in addition to a transport vehicle loaded with 1,600 liters at the same site.
The vehicle and seized quantities were impounded and legal procedures were initiated.
El-Zahry added that technical examination of the seized quantities by the relevant authorities proved they were completely unfit for human consumption and would pose a serious risk to public health if traded.
The Minya governorate called on citizens to cooperate and quickly report any goods of unknown origin, stressing the importance of public awareness in supporting state efforts to tighten control over markets.
