The packaging affects the results more than many people expect. Can a sample pack... To drop your oil from “Bakr Mumtaz” unto “Rejected”?

Yes The packaging that holds the sample may be more dangerous than all stages of cultivation, pressing and storage. It may raise peroxide, drop phenols, and distort K values... Without anyone touching the oil itself.

The packaging is the silent guardian of quality.A transparent bottle, leftover water, an old bottle, a plastic bag, or a “washed” bottle of carbonated water... It can erase an entire season's effort in one report.

Before you blame the tester or doubt the oil, ask yourself calmly:Was your sample pack an honest witness... Or the cause of the disaster?

❓ Why is the sample packaging the last critical point?

Because the results of the analysis do not only reflect the oil, but are directly affected by the quality of the packaging and the conditions of its packaging and transportation, even if the oil is excellent in the tank.

🛑 Common mistakes and straightforward solutions to every problem

1. Leaving the sample in the car (the “grilled” sample)

  • The problem: Temperature may exceed 50°C = PV lift + color change + rapid corruption.
  • The solution: Instant transfer in an insulated case — don't leave it in the car for a minute.

2. Put the sample in a transparent bottle

  • The problem: Oxidation by light → high K232/K270 + loss of phenols.
  • The solution: Only dark glass (amber/green), avoid any clear packaging.

3. Using old packaging for other oils

  • The problem: Oxidized oil residues transfer to the sample and distort the results.
  • The solution: Using a completely new and unused packaging.

4. Using a “washed” bottle of carbonated water

  • The problem: Water residues = hydrolysis, high acidity + transfer of flavors.
  • The solution: 100% dry packaging - Do not use beverage bottles.

5. Put the sample in a plastic bag or plastic package

  • The problem: Light + oxygen + plastic reaction = rapid oxidation and loss of flavor.
  • The solution: Glass only — with the bottle filled to the highest level to reduce air.

6. Using plastic containers that have been exposed to the sun

  • The problem: Thermal degradation of plastics affects flavor and chemical values.
  • The solution: Immediate disposal of any used plastic packaging.

7. Put 150 ml in a 500 ml bottle

  • The problem: A large air vacuum = rapid oxidation and unrepresentative results.
  • The solution: Choose a bottle with a size that is very close to the sample (less than 5% vacuum).

❓ How do we ensure that a “representative sample” is drawn?

  • Mix the tank well before pulling.
  • Clouds are from the middle of the tank and not the surface or near the sediment.
  • Merge samples from multiple barrels when needed.
  • Use clean, dry, non-odor-absorbing tools.
  • Record data immediately.

🧪 Scientific specifications of the sample packaging

✔ Dark glass (amber/green). ✔ Tight cover with Teflon/Silicone lining. ✔ New and completely dry packaging. ✔ Very low air vacuum.

✗ PROHIBITED: Clear packaging - uncertified plastic - old packaging - the presence of water.

🚚 Conditions of transfer and trading

  • Transport in a refrigerated box or insulated case.
  • Do not leave the sample in the car.
  • Avoid direct sun.
  • Fast delivery to the laboratory.

🔬 The role of the laboratory

  1. Reject any inappropriate packaging.
  2. Ensure that the sample volume is 150—250 ml.
  3. Record any notes upon receipt.
  4. Guide the customer in the right way.
  5. Scientifically document the reason for the rejection.

💡 General recommendations

  • The sample is the representative of the oil... And the packaging is its sound.
  • Every small mistake in the packaging equals a big error in the result.
  • Responsibility for sample protection is shared between the producer, the withdrawal technician and the tester.
  • The quality of oil starts from the tree... But the sincerity of the analysis starts from the sample packaging.
